Photophobia

by Aaron Williamson

Black; darkness like tar
behind me, above me, beside me,
around me like bookends,
inside me –
it pools, droops, hangs,
cakes upon my eyelids which
drag me deeper in
to this darkness all around me –
this gasoline on my tongue,
this kerosene in my throat:
this truth.
